We’ve all been following this case from a few weeks. And the most interesting part is, we have a new party come in like every day to not add complexity to the case. But, also add ‘fun’, which is why we’ve been following it this long. Today, however, unlike every great TV series that turns into crap and you stop watching it, we had an abrupt ending to it.
For those who don’t know the story:
I think Engadget in 6 mins – summarized it really well.
What was happening in weeks?
Well, just like things have been going since the beginning.
Apple repeatedly saying “Hey, we wanna help… But yeah, no freaking way we are going to make a alternative OS, it’s going to effect millions of users (who probably don’t even care about it).. Do you have any idea of how dangerous is that?”
While FBI stayed on the official statement, which in summary “You think we don’t know about technology? Yup, that’s right. Besides, no one really cares (only if all the big tech companies supporting Apple can be counted as “no one”). What we care about is LAW. And you need to help us unlock this Phone. Even though there are 1000s of ways around on YT that we haven’t tried yet.”
The ‘big’ companies are like “We stand besides Apple, as long as it helps keeping the technology safe (which is against what we’ve been trying from years… but yeah)”
And the readers are like “Wooooooooooooooooooooooo”
And what happened in the End?
Simply, a “third party” walked up to FBI (probably after watching a tutorial/or maybe uploading one). And said hey, give us the phone we’ll unlock it. FBI started “working with them” (more like watching them work). And YAAAAAY, finally the phone is unlocked and the report to court has been submitted. Now we don’t need Apple to help.
What I can’t get my head around!
Was it really the Phone? I mean, there were many companies that would’ve done it (and exactly one of them in the end did it). But, why was FBI targeting Apple and giving them only one way to solve this problem. Think about it. There’s a lot below the iceberg that we don’t know about.
